JYP Entertainment (JYP Co. Ltd., Hangul: 제이와이피엔터테인먼트, Japanese: ジェイワイパイエンターテイメント) is a Korean record label, founded in South Korea in 1997 by Park Jin Young. The label is one of the “big three” record companies in Korea along with YG Entertainment and S. M. Entertainment that have strong market share and international operations. Once home to artists like Rain, Park Ji Yoon, and g.o.d, the label’s current roster of recording artists include  Wonder Girls, JOO, 2AM, 2PM, Miss A, San E, JJ Project, Baek Ah Yeon and 15&.

History

Park Jin Young founded the company in 1997 as the “Tae-Hong Planning Corporation,” which eventually became “JYP Entertainment” in 2001.

The studio and headquarters of its United States (US) branch, JYP USA, officially opened in New York City in June 2007.[1] In October 2008, JYP Entertainment opened the JYP Beijing Center as its China branch and, in the same year, the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) included JYP Entertainment on its roster of high profile clients.[citation needed]

The company is considered one of the biggest management companies in South Korea, along with S.M. Entertainment and YG Entertainment.[2] In an interview, Park stated that the success of his artists is due to his creation of a “brand” for the artist.[3] It has been reported that the group is worth in excess of $100 million.[3]

In June 2009, it was officially announced that JYP Entertainment and the Jonas Group signed a management deal for the Wonder Girls. Wonder Girls joined the Jonas Brothers‘ World Tour 2009, in selected cities, and performed their two songs “Nobody” and “Tell Me” as the opening act.[4] In the same year, Holyim, a joint venture between JYP Entertainment and KeyEast BOF, was founded.[5]

KMP Holdings : In March 2010, KMP Holdings was established via a joint venture between JYP, S.M., YG, Star Empire, and other companies. KMP is the official distributor of releases from these companies. KMP stands for “Korean Music Power”.[6] In November 2010, JYP Japan (Tokyo) was founded.

In December 2010, Park Jin-Young announced that J. Tune Entertainment would be merged with JYP Entertainment.[7]

United Asia Management : In 2011, JYP Entertainment partnered up with SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, KeyEast, AMENT and Star J Entertainment to create United Asia Management in an effort to promote Korean pop music internationally.[8] In February 2011, JYP Entertainment was changed to JYP co., Ltd.

Collaboration with Reebok : On June 26, 2012, JYP revealed news of a collaboration between JYP and Swizz Beatz for Reebok[9] JYP and Reebok will be working together to represent the brand’s ‘Classic Campaign,’ and a new song is planned for release in July. JYP also revealed the endorsement models from his agency: 2PM‘s Wooyoung and Taecyeon, and miss A‘s Suzy.
